Historic Cochrane Ranche Site

The Historic Cochrane Ranche site is the original site of Senator Matthew Henry Cochrane's ranch, established in 1881. The public park is approximately 136 acres and has a seasonal washroom facility, picnic tables, outdoor stage and three fire pits.  The Cochrane Ranche is located on Highway 1A, just east of Highway 22.


Off-Leash Areas & Parks

Cochrane has three dog off-leash areas that total six hectares in size. Dogs are required to be under your control even in the off-leash area.

  • Along the river between the bridge at the south end of River Avenue and the east end of Griffin Road, opposite Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. Parking available at the south end of River Avenue and opposite SLS Sport Centre.

  • Under the Bow River bridge, just west of Highway 22. Access parking from Griffin Rd west of Highway 22; walk west under the bridge. Dogs must be leashed until the off-leash area. There is also an enclosed dog park in this space.

  • West Valley - Highway 22 (In front of the Smitty's & Tim Horton's)


Ice Skating

Cochrane has two outdoor skating areas and both are maintained for ice skating as long as the weather allows.  Lights are on nightly until 10:00pm.  If you would like to know the current status of the ice, you can call the Facility Status Line (24-hour info) at (403) 851-2552.

  • The Tim Bannister Memorial Outdoor Rink, 324 Ross Ave

  • Mitford Pond, 201 West Rock Rd; access by the parking lot at the west end of West Rock Rd. The pathway through Mitford Park is also connected to the 60 km Town pathway system.


Mitford Park

Mitford Park is a 34-hectare park located along the north bank of the Bow River. This park includes an outdoor covered stage (where our JULY 1st Canada Day celebrations are held), a pedestrian/cycling pathway along the Bow River, ball diamonds, a soccer/rugby field, skateboard facility, ponds and a seasonal washroom. Mitford Park is located at 201 West Rock Rd.


Fishing: Mitford Pond

During the summer Mitford Pond is stocked with trout for fishing in partnership with Trout Unlimited, Jumping Pound Chapter and is a favourite with kids in town! Children 13 and under can take home a fish; everyone else must catch and release.   Ice fishing is prohibited at Mitford Pond.
